Reality Hits Home

Dave came home last night after about a week in Northern Louisiana and I am grateful that he made it through the past three weeks on off and on hitches safely. I was reading through the news this morning and came across a story of a local south Texas man who died on a rig. Whenever I read stories like these I immediately think of a wife he may have left behind, children, and family. It is so heartbreaking that all this man was doing was trying to make a living to better his family. As of now, they do not know the cause of death but the fall, I am sure, was a contributing factor.

I have always been thankful that Dave doesn't work on the rig side of our industry because, to me, it seems there are more dangers on a rig location. Don't get me wrong, I have heard some horror stories on the production/testing side, and seen videos on the coil side so I know that what he has done and what he does now is not without perils. Eagle Ford Texas published a story today about the increase in serious injuries ans fatalities and how it doesn't match up with Heinrich’s principle which is the occurrence of a particular serious (lost time) or fatal incident was the result of many precursor events. I would say the worst incident that I have seen pictures of and knew people who had passed away from it was the rig explosion just outside Victoria over a year ago. Four men lost their lives and I believe two or three of them were related. I saw the picture of the equipment that was on sight and it was just devastating.

In the end all we can do is pray for our guys to be safe and make it back home to their
families when hitch is over.
